How long should you actually stay with a niche before deciding it’s not working?

Because waiting forever isn’t the answer either.

Here’s a simple rule that removes most of the guesswork.

Before deciding a niche doesn’t work, aim to publish around 20–30 listings in that niche.

Why?

Because Etsy needs enough signals to understand what your shop is about.

One listing isn’t a niche.

Five listings isn’t a niche.

But twenty listings start to create presence.

And presence creates discoverability.

Most sellers test like this:

1 listing → no sale → pivot.

But that’s not testing, that’s gambling.

A single listing has almost no chance of surfacing in search consistently.

Etsy works more like momentum stacking.

Every additional listing reinforces the niche signal.

Once your shop has enough listings in a niche, something starts to shift.

You begin to see:

• More impressions
• More favourites
• More consistent views

Sales might not happen right away, but you’ll notice traction.

And traction is what momentum grows from.

A niche probably isn’t working if:

• You’ve published 20–30 listings
• You’ve used relevant keywords
• Your listings get almost no views

At that point, it’s reasonable to test another niche.

But most sellers switch direction before they reach that point.

Which means Etsy never receives enough signals to understand their shop.
